This is my second time as FSM-CFA exhibitor and I took this oppurtunity to enrol my mix-Persian, Speedy for this show. I had ‘pumped’ Speedy so that he’ll be gaining some weight but he gained approximately 200gm (4.9kg now). Since Speedy a fussy eater and he does not eat much in 1 go, I had to resort feeding him 3-4 times a day by adding nutrition supplements such as ginseng in powder form (for pets), Nutrical (his favorite) and Brewer Yeast. Grooming him is also another challenge since Speedy had long and ‘cottonish’ fur and blow dry him needs hell lots of patience and time. Getting Speedy to sit on the grooming table is no easy task since he don’t usually sit long at 1 spot for long. Therefore, a lot of short breaks (and Nutrical) are needed to get him 100% dry.

Here he is in the 4 days 3 nights in Melaka:

Above: Nope!! This is not Speedy. This is Speedy’s roomate, FullMetal. He is a Maine Coon and he had been ‘harrassing’ Speedy knowing Speedy is a newbie. Behind FullMetal is another Maine Coon called Chiu Kuan and mind you, that is my bed!!

Above: This is Speedy, the moment I had opened his carrier. Since he had been…. ‘prospered’ for the past month, he could not get his entire body into the side cabinet.

My only female cat at home, Lady Yelena had been spayed on Thursday, May 11th 2006 at the Pet Medical Centre, Bandar Sri Damansara under the care of Dr. Low Beng Kiong. Lady Yelena was at his clinic around 11am and I got her back at 6.30pm. Here are some pictures taken:-

Day 1
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Yelena kinda sleepy and she is resting comfortably in her cage cushioned with her favourite blanket.

Day 2
I decided to let Yelena out from the cage to let her walk around and stretch herself a bit. She seemed pretty enjoying herself although she still has the sleepy kinda look. Maybe the sumptious meal that I had prepared for her that morning? Hmmmm…..

Below: Some close-up shots on Yelena’s spayed area

Day 11
This is the 11th day and Yelena had been recovering quite well although there was a mild infection on her incesion but nothing to worry about. One thing I had learnt through out this recovering stage is that cat owner’s need to monitor the wound everyday so that any infection can be rectified immediately. I had applied antiseptic cream (for cats) on her wound twice a day and thank god the inflammed part had been subsided.

It is nice to see Yelena had been acting normal with not much of tanturums. She still enjoys her regular activities which are sleeping on high places, eating but I noticed she had been very, very affectionate towards me and Casper as well (hmmmm….)

Day 14
With daily observation and cleaning the infection wound twice a day, the infection had stopped and getting better.

Day 18
After 2 weeks and a half, the wound had finally closed up and fur had already begin to grow as well. I decided to bath Yelena today and she doesn’t mind her 1st bath after spaying either. Just sit there in the bath tub without any tantrums.

Thank god everything had been going very well on Yelena’s recovery and thank you to my vet, Dr. Low Beng Kiong for doing a well-done job.

April 16th, 2006 was indeed a memorable to me and my Akechi, the Munchkin. It was Akechi’s first time entering a cat competing at Berjaya Times Square organised by Aftina House. The cat competition is the very first Malaysian National Cat Competition, a national level cat competition. (Click here for more info on the event.) Akechi was at his best behaviour sleeping in his cage most of the time and occasionally yawns when his name was called. But he got a bit agitated with constant meow and growling when he was presented to the judge of the day, Ms. Theresa Imboden-Johnson. Perhaps it was the scent of other cats which he was not comfortable. At the end of the show, Akechi was awarded Best Shorthair Pedigree cat under the Neuter category and most of all, Akechi was selected in the Top 5 Cats for Best in Show for this competition. There were a Persian, a Maine Coon, A Bengal, a Munchkin and a Siamese competiting for the Best in Show title. The official ranking is as below:

5th Best in Show: A Siamese
4th Best in Show: A Bengal
3rd Best in Show: A Munchkin
2nd Best in Show: A Maine Coon
Best in Show: A Persian

Akechi was given a special pillow with the picture of Australia Koala on it for his 3rd place. Here are some pictures taken when Akechi is being judged.

Besides Akechi, my Rico was also shown in the show but under the Household Category. Although he did not won anything but he had certainly won my heart. Below is Rico taking the oppurtunity lying down on Akechi’s winning pillow…. isn’t he adorable?

It had been a week now ever since Lady Yelena, my 6th and only female cat arrived at her new home. She is the most gentle cat compared to my other rascals (hahahaha…). She hardly meows but if she does, one can hardly hear her. It took a few days for the rest of my cats to accept Yelena’s arrival and I must say she, too can be a rascal when it comes to playing. Her favourite toy was the feather. She just go ballistic when she sees me holding the feather stick.

According to my vet, she is approximately 1 - 1.5 years old, a healthy, beautiful young adult female cat. Here are some shots taken:

Lady Yelena is a brown mackerel with white semi-longhair cat. Approximately 6 months old or so and she is my 6th member of my cat family. To begin with the story, Yelena was actually a pet cat for a lady whom about to migrate to China and therefore, had left Yelena to my close friend’s mother to take care. When my friend mentioned about this, I told him that I am interested to have a look since I am in search of a female cat.

Being an outdoor cat, I must say she is pretty clean but her white socks were a bit yellowish. Thanks to my friend, he had bathed and cleaned her and now, she looked like a princess now.

Currently, Yelena is still with my friend’s place and hopefully Yelena will be arriving to my home before this Chinese New Year and Yelena…. proud daddy is waiting for ya…..

ok guys…This is Akechi Samanosuke, a blotched black tabby with white Munchkin borned on 14th August 2005 is my 5th cat in my family. I got him from the Pusaka Rimba Cattery last weekend. To make it as a story, I only came to know about this Munchkin breed when I attended a gathering among cat lovers which was held October 2004. That time, Yusri brought his Munchkin named Norton (father of Akechi) and the moment I saw Norton, I fell in love with the breed or you can say love at first sight…

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com

From then, I promised myself that Munchkin will be in my wishing list and finally, I owned one. Akechi indeed an adorable cat. He constantly need human touch when he sees me and perhaps that is the reason I had picked him. Whenever I sat on the couch or using my computer, Akechi had never failed to come by and ask for attention. As of this time (posting), my Speed and Rico had been getting along with Akechi and I am sure with a little bit of time, his other 2 brothers; Wesley and Casper would accept Akechi into the family…

Me & My Cats8 August, 2005 18:18

Ok guys… introducing my kids… The red-white cat is called Wesley aka Big Wussy. Very affectionate but easily sulk. He was borned on Feb 2001 and that makes him 4 years 8 months old (at the time of this posting). Wesley is the only cat that shares the same pillow with me every night when we sleep…

Next, is Casper (black-white) and he was borned on Jan 2002. Isn’t he adorable? He is the only cat that respond to his name. oh yeah… I called him Small Wussy… Plus, he is also the only cat at home that would be able to perform some Matrix stunts (gotta get a 5 frames per shot camera…). Both Wesley and Casper were adopted from SPCA Ampang.

Speed, the silver Persian cross was rescued from at petshop that I frequented at Damansara Uptown. He was dumped together with his sibling by his irresponsible owner. (Damn these people!!!). Speed and his sibling were sent for a so-called 3-days boarding but unfortunately the owner did not claim them after a month. The petshop owner decided to put them for adoption. I was contented to take both of them but unfortunately, Speed’s sibling had been ‘booked’. (I don’t really like the idea of separating siblings especially when they were 5/6 months old and they were so close….). Anyhow, Speed made his ‘dad’ proud after he got 1st place under the Neuter Class (Long Hair category) in the 1st Malaysian Open Cat Competition held at Berjaya Times Square and 2nd place under the same category at the MCC International Cat Competition. Speed is currently 1 year 2 months old.

Lastly, the 4th member of my family is Rico short for Enrico ‘Marble’ Mauritius. Rico was saved from the street by a friend of mine while he was having dinner with his wife at a nearby stall. He is approximately 6 months old now. Besides got him all the necessary vaccinations, couple of rounds of deworming, ear mites and parasite treatment, he is now the sleek lil devil in the house… heheheheh….. Rico constantly bully all his brothers especially Speed. Currently he is the most active cat in the house with all the crash, boom, bang here and there….

Needless to say that, I love all my cats and I sincerely believed that I still able to take care a couple more (before moving to a bigger house…). All of my cats are not pedigree cats and for me, Love needs no pedigree. Domestic cats or Pedigrees; cats are still cats and they should not be treated differently by sensible beings like us….
